What does an online fitness coach do?

Up until a few years ago, if you needed help with your fitness, working with a trainer or nutritionist, in-person was your only viable option. With ongoing advances in technology, the proliferation of social media, and more people working from home or needing more flexibility, the demand for online fitness coaches is growing with no sign of slowing down!

Just like their in-person counterparts, an online fitness coach offers expertise and support in service of their client’s fitness goals. Most online fitness coaches write training programs, create nutrition plans, ask for periodic check-ins, monitor progress, and more. Some online fitness coaches offer a hybrid-based service, where they primarily work with the client online, but meet with them in-person for personal training or consulting from time to time.

What makes a good online fitness coach?

Every fitness coach is different! Whether they work with you in-person or online, all coaches have different skills, interests, educational backgrounds, and specialties. Anyone who works in the fitness space should be supportive, empathetic, and inspiring for the people they serve. A coach who specifically offers most of their services remotely should be extremely efficient at communicating in a wide variety of learning styles. He or she should also be confident in using technology to deliver the content and tools needed for the client to monitor progress and achieve their goals. An amazing online coach can foster connection and build a bond with their client even if they live 10,000 miles away. Not all online coaches are created equal, so make sure to do your research, ask questions, and keep an eye out for any red flags that might indicate a certain coach is not the right fit for you.

Why work with an online fitness coach?

Working with an online coach allows you to improve your health and achieve your fitness goals with the support of an expert from anywhere in the world. They can help build up your knowledge, confidence, and improve health outcomes even if your schedule or resources are limited or different. Teaming up with an online coach allows you to work with someone who is incredibly knowledgeable and effective without the need to step foot into a gym if you don’t wish to. Hiring an online coach is often more cost-effective and time-efficient than meeting in-person too.

Why is fitness so important anyway?

Being healthy and fit equips you to take on any challenge that comes your way. It also makes you less prone to chronic disease, improves mental health, decreases your risk of injury, and will help you live longer.

Is hiring an online fitness coach worth it?

Hiring an online coach requires an investment of your time, energy, and money. If you are willing to put forth your best effort and be open to personal growth, your online coach will be able to support you optimally. Many people say that an online coach has completely changed their life for the better!

How to choose an online fitness coach

Don’t hesitate to ask a friend for a referral. If they love their online coach, you might too! You can also find a great coach by browsing social media (often using hashtags about what you’re looking for), but make sure to also ask or seek out details about the coach’s professional credentials and affiliations, experience level, testimonials, etc.

Conclusion

For some people, working with a coach in-person will be the best fit. However, many women and men are turning to online coaching as an even more convenient, affordable, and enjoyable way to meet their fitness goals.
